ECO 4 FLEX Scheme Explained.
What is the ECO 4 Scheme?
The ECO4 scheme is a government-backed initiative designed to help improve the energy efficiency of homes across the UK. It provides fully funded upgrades such as boiler replacements, insulation, and heating improvements to eligible households. The goal of the scheme is to help homeowners and tenants reduce their energy bills, keep their homes warmer, and lower carbon emissions.
ECO 4 is the latest phase of the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme, running from 2022 to 2026. It focuses on supporting low-income and vulnerable households by upgrading inefficient heating systems and improving home insulation. These improvements to your home not only reduce your monthly energy costs but also will contribute massively to a greener world.
With rising energy costs, the ECO 4 scheme is an excellent opportunity to make homes more energy-efficient at no cost to those who qualify.
Who Qualifies for the ECO 4 Scheme?
The ECO 4 scheme is designed to help low-income and vulnerable households improve their home’s energy efficiency for free. To qualify, your home must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of E, F, or G, meaning it loses too much heat and costs a lot more to run. The scheme focuses on upgrading old, inefficient heating systems, including:
Non-condensing boilers
Back boilers and system boilers over 20 years old
Homes with no central heating
Inefficient oil and electric heating systems
If your home relies on electricity, oil, or other costly heating methods, you could qualify for smart storage heaters, air source heat pumps, and even solar panels to make your home more efficient. These modern solutions help cut energy costs while reducing your home’s carbon footprint.
But ECO 4 isn’t just about boilers — insulation is a huge part of the scheme. If your home lacks proper loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, or solid wall insulation, you could qualify for free insulation measures to help keep the heat in and reduce your energy bills.
One of the most common measures most people qualify for is loft insulation combined with heating controls. Even if you don’t have an old boiler, you may still qualify for free wall or loft insulation and smart heating controls, which can help you regulate your home's temperature and save you money.
If your home is cold, expensive to heat, or poorly insulated, now is the time to apply! If you’re unsure whether you qualify, our team will be happy to check for you — many households are qualifying for free insulation, heating upgrades, and renewable energy solutions under ECO 4, so don’t miss out!
See below for the different routes you can qualify through if you would like to access your fully-funded heating or insulation measures.
